Previously we have written about SEO, and five ways to get traffic for your online business. The higher your pages can rank on Google/Bing/Yahoo/etc. results pages, the more traffic your website is possible to get.

SEO can be divided up into two separate sections; On-Page SEO & Off-Page SEO.

On-Page SEO refers to all the work that you can do ON your website to increase your rank, such as page titles, meta tags & descriptions, internal linking, etc.

Off-Page SEO is all about the things that you can do to increase links pointing at your websites, such as, article submission, social networking, forum & blog marketing, etc.

We will be looking particularly at On-Page SEO and five successful ways to improve your page rankings on search engines.

1.      Page Titles

Your page titles are one of the most essential SEO factors on your website. Each of your pages & posts should have its own distinctive title that includes the main keywords for that page.

For instance, you could write a blog post about E-commerce trends in the Middle East. It is therefore critically important that you add ‘Middle East Marketing’ within your post title, or perhaps “Internet Marketing in the Middle East” etc.

This way, whenever a user searches for Marketing in the Middle East in a search engine, your article has a better chance of showing up because you have included such keywords.

2.      Meta Descriptions

Many website owners forget to incorporate meta descriptions for their pages. These descriptions are an essential section to include appropriate keywords for your content, as these are used within the search results when your page is listed.

For example, if we continue to use the ‘Middle East Trends’ example, then a good meta description for that page would include those keywords and related ones ensure that the search engines pick p those specific keywords and rank the page.

3.      URL  Structure

Include search engine friendly URLs for each of your pages is vital, as these bring better crawling. Shorter URLs appears to achieve better in search engine results; on the other hand, that is not the only factor.

URLs that include targeted keywords, also execute better results. The location of these keywords can also be a strong influence.

4.      Increase Keyword Density

Include relevant and targeted keywords throughout your content, as it helps search engines work out what your content is all about. However, try not to excessively duplicate and overuse keywords just for search engine robots to fetch your site. This can lead to your website being blacklisted from search engines. To stay away from this, minimize your keyword density to roughly 2-5%.

5.      Image optimization

Using images within your content is an excellent way to make your site more visually attractive and reduce boring long text. You can employ these images to increase page ranks on SERP.

Include Alt Text and Descriptions for your images, which make them even more useful with SEO.

These are some of the few techniques that you can start right away to improve SEO. SEO does takes time, and patience is a must have when playing the game with any Search Engine.
